A Maths Mistake That Helped Me Improve
I used to think mistakes in maths were only signs that I was not good enough at a topic. Now I think they can also be useful, because a mistake can show exactly what I need to understand better.
One maths mistake that helped me improve was when I answered a question too quickly because I thought I knew the pattern already. I did not check the details carefully, and I ended up using the wrong method. When I looked back, I realised that the real problem was not only the answer. The real problem was that I had rushed and assumed instead of thinking step by step.
That mistake taught me something important. In maths, confidence is good, but careful thinking is better. Sometimes I lose marks not because the topic is impossible, but because I move too fast, skip a step, or do not check what the question is really asking.
After that, I started paying more attention to my process. I tried to slow down, underline important information, and check whether my method really matched the question. I also started asking myself: Do I understand this, or do I only think I understand it?
I think mistakes are helpful when I take time to learn from them. If I only feel frustrated, the mistake does not help much. But if I ask why it happened, it becomes useful.
Now I still do not enjoy making mistakes, but I understand them differently. Sometimes a mistake is the moment that shows me exactly how to get better.
