When You Trap a Tiger

Tae Keller

finished

Family stories, magic that feels grounded, and a heroine who is allowed to be scared.

I read this in winter when I wanted something brave but gentle. The magic rules made sense to me because they were tied to stories the family told, not random sparkles.

Notes

  • I liked how food scenes carried emotion without explaining too much.
  • The tiger is scary and sad at the same time, which felt honest.

A reflection

It made me think about what we lose when we do not ask grandparents questions early enough — and what we can still choose to listen for.
